When a learner goes over the 20% absence limit

DepEd Order 15, s. 2026 fails the learning area unless the absences are justified. Two screens flag it before release.

The rule

DepEd Order No. 015, s. 2026: absences beyond 20% of the class days for a term mean a failing grade and no credit, unless the absences are justified. In practice that is more than one day absent for every five days the class met that term.

Where you see it

  • Attendance → the panel What the report card will show counts the learners over the limit in each term, under OVER 20% ABSENT.
  • Release → the Before you release list raises it as a warning, naming up to three learners: "N over the 20% absence threshold". It is a warning, not a blocker, so you can tick I have read the warnings and want to release anyway and continue.

What it changes at year end

If any term is over the limit for a learner, every learning area is treated as failed for that learner for the year, and their promotion status on the class Grades page follows from that. This is the one place attendance touches a grade, so it is worth checking the register is right before the year closes.

Check the days before you accept the number

The commonest cause of a wrong count is a calendar problem, not attendance:

  1. Open the months of that term and check School days. A holiday left ticked shrinks nobody's absences but a day of class left unticked inflates the percentage.
  2. Check Months in each term. A month sitting under two terms is counted in both.
  3. Check Recent changes for a mark that was not meant.

Justified absences

SchoolAide Lite counts days; it does not decide whether an absence was excused. There is no tick for it in the register, so treat the flag as a prompt to settle the matter the way your school does, and to make sure the days themselves are recorded correctly.
