A term grade is never guessed. When the engine cannot compute one it says so and shows a dash, and the reason is on the cell and inside Explain this grade.
The reasons, and what fixes each
"Written/Oral Works has no activities yet." A weighted component has no activity at all, so its percentage does not exist and the initial grade cannot be summed. On the class record the column header shows No activities. Add one with Add an activity, or on an empty term use Set up one per component or Copy from an earlier term.
"No scores counted in Examinations yet." The activities are there, but nothing in that component counts for this learner — every cell is blank, excused, or in an activity you left out of the grade. Encode at least one score, or put a left-out activity back with Count it again on the Activities page.
"No activities in this term yet." The term is empty. Pick the right term tab first; a term you have not started yet is normal in October.
"No scores recorded for this learner in this term." Other learners compute, this one does not. Usually a row that was added late — check the learner's row across every column.
INC on the Grades page
The class Grades page averages the terms into a final grade. A learning area missing any term shows INC until that term computes. Hover it to see which term is missing.
Faded numbers
A faded grade is stale: a score changed and the recompute is still queued. It settles on its own, and Compute them now does it immediately.
